Project guides
Plan the job before you rent the machine
Nine guides to the work this yard actually serves, written from the machines out. What each stage needs, how many days it really takes, what we do not supply, and the warnings that keep a weekend from becoming a claim.
NINE GUIDES · REAL TONNAGES · A PLANNER ON EVERY PAGE
The guides
Pick the job you are doing
Each one carries the sequence, the material, the day counts, and a planner that works out your numbers and sends you to the calendar with the dates already asked for.
Interlock driveway
Laying an interlock driveway
The base is the job. The pavers are the part everyone photographs, and they are two of the seven days — get the eight inches under them right and the driveway outlives the house.

Walkway or path
Laying a walkway or garden path
A path is a small driveway with the same rules and none of the tonnage. The one thing people skip is compaction, on the theory that nobody drives on it — and then it settles anyway, because frost does not care what you drive.

Patio
Building a patio, including large-format slabs
A patio is the job where the format decides everything. Small pavers are a laying job; twenty-four inch slabs are a lifting job, and the two are planned differently from the first load of stone.
300 sq ft · 4 days
Retaining wall
Building a small retaining wall
A retaining wall is a drainage project wearing a masonry costume. What holds it up is the base, the buried course and the clear stone behind it — the block is just the face you can see failing.
30 ft · 4 days
Precast steps
Rebuilding precast steps
This is the job with the highest injury and breakage risk on the whole list, and it is short. A precast step is five or six hundred pounds of concrete that has to land within a quarter inch of where you want it, once.
40 sq ft · 2 days
Fence line
Digging and setting a fence line
Every hole on a fence line is a chance to find something expensive. Locates first, then the only two numbers that matter: how deep the posts go and how far apart they sit.
40 ft · 3 days
Drainage trench
Running a drainage trench
A drain is a slope with a pipe in it. Get the fall right and the rest is shovelling; get it wrong and you have buried a very expensive puddle.
60 ft · 2 days
Spring wash-down
The spring wash-down
Winter leaves salt, sand and a grey film on everything, and one weekend takes it off. The number that decides how long it takes is not pressure — it is gallons a minute.
900 sq ft · 1 day
Cottage opening
Opening the cottage
The opening weekend is one trip, and everything you forget is a two-hour round trip to get it. Plan it as a haul, a wash and a power question, in that order.

Why we wrote these
Nobody local will tell you this part.
Every rental yard within an hour of here will quote you a machine. None of them will tell you that the base is the job, that the plate cannot compact eight inches in one pass, that a locate is free and takes five business days, or that the vacuum lifter you were about to add is useless on the pavers you picked.
We would rather you rented the right thing for the right number of days and finished the job than rented four machines and found out on day two that the dirt has nowhere to go. Every guide here says plainly what we do not supply, because that list is the part that ruins weekends.
Rates and availability live on the equipment pages, where they are current. Nothing on a guide quotes a price, and nothing on a guide invents a number — anything we have not confirmed is marked.
